Heritage staircase redecoration, Bath
Sensitive redecoration of a period staircase and stairwells in a Grade listed building.
Decorating a listed building is a different discipline. This project covered the full staircase and stairwells of a period property in Bath, taken across several storeys, with the care a heritage interior demands.
We worked to a considered two-tone scheme: a deep navy dado below the rail with soft, pale walls above, crisp white spindles and balustrades, and richly finished handrails. Every surface was properly prepared first, with careful attention to the ornate joinery and mouldings so the detail stayed sharp rather than clogged with paint.
The building stayed in use throughout, so we planned access around the occupants, kept escape routes clear and signage visible, and left each landing clean at the end of every day. The result is a stairwell that feels smart, considered and true to the character of the building.
